We've looked at a few apartments now and have pretty much decided on one. I am trying to fight the urge to haggle (a feat being chinese and recently coming from china) and accept the low monthly rent offered.
Some perks of renting Swedish apts:
1. No need to haggle. Unlike Chinese landlords, they probably aren't trying to rip you off.
2. 3 month contracts. That means easy in, and even easier out without losing all of your deposit. And they won't take it personally.
3. They are plentiful here and they all look pretty cute and quaint. Think boutique B&B.
4. Assigned laundry time. I think this aspect of socialism works for me. Except if we happen to miss our appointment!
5. Half price. A 3 bedroom apartment with great feng shui and wonderful sunlight runs for about 750USD.
6. They are open to renovation at your request. This one place agreed to change the wallpapers and flooring but we decided not to go with that one anyway.
7. All are "central." At least to K-town.
8. Utilities are included in the rent. Except internet which is cheap here anyway.
Cons:
1. Your names are written on your doors. I guess privacy isn't a priority given how safe it is here. I am going to try to fight this one. dkf suggested we give them the name, "Dried Lung." That is using the first letter of our first name as the first letter of our last name!
2. I might think of more once we move in. We should be doing that post-IKEA trip this weekend.
Pics to follow of course.
